TOTD // 26/09 // Thomas Fehlmann

Published: September 26, 2018, words by Oliver Katz

The Swiss-born composer Thomas Fehlmann has been active in electronic music as far back as the 1980s. His CV is extensive; producing classic albums as one half of the Orb, scoring feature-length films, holding a DJ residency at seminal nightclub Tresor in the 90s, releasing on labels such as Kompakt, R&S and Apollo. The list goes on and on.

This month Thomas Fehlmann returned after a hiatus of solo producing, to release his seventh album. Los Lagos is his first solo work since 2010, where Gute Luft was released on Kompakt (the same label putting out this work).

“It was time to take a bend and head where the sun rises or sets, wherever my heart drives me,” Fehlmann says of Los Lagos, adding that he aimed to follow his intuition “to bring out a new beauty.”

To celebrate this occasion, the esteemed musician has selected tracks for tired ears, as part of our All Ears takeover. With such a strong musical heritage, his selections range from ‘musical poetry’ created in the 70s, to a ‘timeless masterpiece’ by Miles Davis. Sit back and let those ears relax as Thomas Fehlmann takes you on a journey through his sonic taste.

“Musical poetry from the 70s with an enviable sensual approach. Beautifully spontaneous, convincingly minimal, disarmingly tender and inventively soothing.”
