Part of the All Ears campaign takeover

Last August Bob Tollast, Olly Puglisi and Tom Fisher emerged to release their debut album ‘Y U’ under ILK. None of them, however, are new faces to the music world. As members of Laurel Collective – alongside Mercury Award-winning producer Charlie Andrew (Alt J) – Puglisi and Tollast are also co-founders of In the Woods festival. Under the name Action Pyramid, Tom Fisher’s work as a sound artist has featured as installations and headphone pieces at the Tate Modern, Tate Britain and Iceland’s Husavik Whale Museum.

Released on Matthew Herbert’s Accidental Records, Y U was described as ‘a joyous mix of rich loop-based psych-pop and sonic exploration, which fuses effortlessly with live instrumentation to create a hazy and colourful soundscape laced with catchy melodies.’ This June they returned to follow it up with their Y U R M X EP. As you will expect from the title, it contains a selection of remixes from Y U. Unexpectedly, it also featured two original tracks. Their musical direction is one of flare and uniqueness, one which we’re excited to continue following. As part of our All Ears takeover, ILK has selected tracks for tired studio ears. From the musical legend Brian Eno to the equally talented Arthur Russell, this is a special collection of songs.

Arthur Russell

All-Boy All-Girl

  • Calm

  • Energetic

  • Euphoric

  • Happy

  • Melancholic

  • Nostalgic

  • Tense

  • Wonky

“It was hard to choose a track from this classic Arthur Russell album World of Echo, but this era of his music always comes to mind when wanting something warm and soothing. The barely-there production and slow pulse of this track are just perfect with the touches of his distinctive cello and voice.”

Stars Of The Lid

Music For Twin Peaks Episode #30, Part 1 & 2

  • Calm

  • Energetic

  • Euphoric

  • Happy

  • Melancholic

  • Nostalgic

  • Tense

  • Wonky

“The simplicity of this excellent Stars Of The Lid track is deceptive. Who knew two repeating chords could be so pleasing. The title is perhaps quite telling to the piece’s cinematic quality but this is some next level ‘score for your own life as you stare out a train window in the countryside with headphones on’ type shit…”

Mica Levi & Oliver Coates

Barok Main

  • Calm

  • Energetic

  • Euphoric

  • Happy

  • Melancholic

  • Nostalgic

  • Tense

  • Wonky

“We’re big fans of both Mica and Oliver’s output, and this standout track from their collaborative record is a really great synthesis of live instrumentation with more ‘electronic’ effects. The more improvised structure with a loose melodic theme makes it really come to life.”

Brian Eno & Robert Fripp

Evensong

  • Calm

  • Energetic

  • Euphoric

  • Happy

  • Melancholic

  • Nostalgic

  • Tense

  • Wonky

“The lilting guitar motifs that build beautifully on this short gem of a track have probably influenced some of Ilks productions. There is something very calming about the lovely wonkiness of the loop as it ebbs along. We do have very positive associations with this track as well, being a go-to album on an unforgettable road trip in Iceland a few years back. The music and the landscape was one excellent combo..”
