Part of the All Ears takeover

Upcoming events

Francesco Visconti, aka VSK, readies his next collaborative EP, Helix, with the Serbian producer Scalameriya. Ahead of the this pounding techno release, we invited Francesco in to share another side to his taste.

Born in Rome, VSK’s time spent in the formidable Remix record store from a young age found him dipping his foot into the world of DJing at only 16. This early start paid off, and only a few years later he held a residency at Goa Club for two seasons. Around this time was when Francesco began to dabble into the field of production, following an acquaintance with Ken Karter. Now, he is a qualified audio-engineer and sound designer, working mainly in television alongside his DJing and production.

VSK’s love for techno has seen him delve into a range of styles. Where his talents mainly lie is in the realm of the industrial. Raw, heavy, dense; his production comes at you like a tonne of bricks, leaving no room to breath. With releases on iconic labels such as Perc Trax, Power Vacuum and 47, you don’t even have to listen to the records to know that they will hit the spot. Not only has he appeared on many imprints, VSK started his own in 2010, Consumer Recreation Services, with his friends Conrad Van Orton and Vilix. It’s here where the four-track monstrous Helix will be released.

Surrounded daily by heavy kicks and distortion takes its toll on the ears, and it’s necessary to take the time to wind down and relax. Here, VSK enlightens us as to the music he listens to in order to unwind and rest his ears in support of our All Ears campaign.

“In a list of tracks for ears in need for rest, it is not possible not to mention the master Nils Frahm.  Listening to his music, you feel captured by the notes, and the melodies lead you into a peaceful dimension. It is a bit restrictive when talking about this artist to select only one track, because his work is more significant as a whole. I got lost many times listening to his live show at “la Villette Sonique”. Mind-blowing.  ”

“I’ve really got into this D’n’B style recently. The job that Samurai Horo, Osiris and UVB76 labels are doing is amazing. Actually I think this sound fits really well for the tired ears of the crowd at the end of a party, in order to achieve a decompression state before the closing. The whole album from Overlook released on UVB76 is sensational. This track in particular, with its smooth and deep sound, instils peace and calmness. And its soft groove brings back to mind the rhythm of the party.”

“Massive Attack are with no doubts one of my favourite bands and biggest inspirations. They have been the first ones to bring me close to electronic music. As the lyrics say, the sequence ends: it is a perfect tune to get in touch with your inner being and relax the soul. The whole album 100th Window is a masterpiece to restore energy.”

“First of all, Autechre for me are the modern masters of electronic music. I always play some of their tracks after a gig. This historical tune actually is perfect for any moment, I play it so often – also during my sets. The tension of this pad gives me so many different vibes at the same time; powerful and energetic, relaxing and harmonic. Definitely a perfect choice to lose yourself and calm down your mind.”
