Part of the All Ears takeover
The name Nachtbraker, if you didn’t know what it means, still sounds like a cool alias. But when you understand its actual meaning (Dutch for night hawk) it gets transported into another league. DVS1 is another of these aliases. For a long time I didn’t realise it was supposed to be pronounced as devious one. My world was blown away.
Maurits Verwoerd, aka Nachtbraker aka Night Hawk, started producing music in the underground dungeons of Amsterdam. Coming out occasionally, but only at night, he developed this name among friends and enemies. His multi-genre, percussive music caught the attention of two labels in particular that we’re very fond of; Dirt Crew Recordings and Detroit Swindle’s Heist. Through these, he’s developed a strong discography that has seen him rise through the ranks in the electronic music scene. Unfortunately, during this short time, he has also developed tinnitus.
“Of course I knew that because of listening to loud music I risked hearing loss. But having a constant high tone in my head? No I didn’t know that before I got it. It just creeps in and at first I didn’t really know that it was tinnitus. The concept “complete silence” is non-existent for me. That is something I miss the most. At first I really felt down because of it. I’ll have this for the rest of my life, permanent damage. Hence, these kind of awareness campaigns are of utmost importance.”
As one of the early supporters of our All Ears campaign, and a sufferer of the condition himself, Nachtbraker details a few of the tracks that sooth his ears in times of increased stress and tiredness, joining Drvg Cvltvre, Bicep and a host of others in providing advice and, hopefully, a little comfort for those going through the same problem. From beautiful slow jams, to soothing Japanese vocal music that pushed him to start his own label, great selections is what we’ve come to expect from the Night Hawk.
