Part of the All Ears takeover
Bicep’s meteoric rise in the scene is well documented and known by pretty much everyone who has half a liking for house and techno. From humble beginnings as a blog, the stage Bicep at now is a testament to how far an artist can get when they focus on a unique sound.
Bicep are currently in the midst of an exciting period. Their status straddles the boundary between an underground and almost mainstream fanbase, but have done so without sacrificing on their sound to appeal to the a wider audience – their growth has been organic.
The best example of this came when they released their debut album, Bicep, on Ninja Tune on September 1st; a huge landmark for the duo. Here, they’ve capitalised on their said sound – melding emotional house and techno with trance elements with dexterity. It’s no surprise to anyone that the production is impeccable given their credentials.
As long-term fans, we’re incredibly excited to have them on-board with our All Ears campaign. Bicep have arguably one of the biggest reaches in terms of fan base in underground music today, which is why it’s so important that big players like themselves are advocates for hearing protection whilst clubbing. Matt from Bicep has been on record as the half of the duo that suffers from tinnitus; ”I picked up very aggressive tinnitus three years ago and thankfully after a few months it dropped away by about 80% [but] I still have a subtle buzz/hiss [that] is manageable. When it was bad, I couldn’t even think, sleep or anything. Just sitting on an aeroplane was awful as it’s all I could hear. I use earplugs all the time now DJing.”
Matt’s experience highlights a common trend – treatment after the fact. We’re running All Ears to raise awareness that hearing protection should be worn before any damage is caused, not after.
To support the campaign, Matt has shared four beautiful tracks that help him relax in times of stress and tiredness.
