Part of the Secretsundaze Studios takeover
“DrumTalk is the sound of machines being controlled by a human. Or maybe the sound of a human being controlled by machines…”
DrumTalk is a producer, engineer and teacher with a healthy obsession for percussion. Over the last 5 years, he’s has carved a name for himself as a dance producer with a difference. Using analogue samples alongside unpolished digital sounds; tribal drum patterns and lo-fi melodic grooves, he creates world-influenced electronic music with a London house aesthetic.
DrumTalk’s first EP came in 2012 on East London’s Soundway Records. In the years following, his scene bridging productions gathered momentum, helped along by huge support from Gilles Peterson. Releases on Huntleys & Palmers, More Music and Crosstown Rebels, in 2016 he worked alongside Medlar, Eli Escobar and Lone for Moxie’s genre bashing ‘On Loop’ compilation series.
He’s described his own DJ sets as “a little trip through DrumTalk land.” His selections are always personal – each track tells a little bit of his story, his influences, and the journey he’s taken as a musician. He draws on world, house, two step, dub and, to nobody’s surprise, a whole lot of drum. Stand out mixes for Solid Steel, Ransom Note and Worldwide FM, his original productions Boiler Room set from 2016 cemented his place among the UK’s dance connoisseurs.
After a small hiatus in 2017, DrumTalk will return with new music this Autumn. In the meantime, he shares with us a selection of ‘music that moved him.’ These picks showcase his eclectic influences, from disco, to heart-wrenching piano, to mysterious party synth.
