Motorik is the Aussie label challenging the conventions of house and techno down under. Founded by CSMNT61, The Finger Prince and Vivi, the Motorik collective have become world renowned for their award-winning warehouse parties and distinctive sounds. Francis Xavier – part of the legendary electronica band, Infusion (and not to be confused with the Navarrese-Basque Roman Catholic missionary) – has been involved in the project since day one as one half of The Finger Prince, and in solo productions since as well. The impressive back-catalogue boasts over twenty-five releases from the likes of Phil Smart, Craig Williams & Louisahhh, Sei A, Green Velvet, Jensen Interceptor and K.I.M and remixes from heavyweights Vakula, Paul Woolford and Eskimo Twins to name but a few.

The Sydney-based label is now well into its fifth year, an achievement marked earlier in 2017 by the release of a celebratory digital compilation. Motorik’s record label was born from the collective’s infamous monthly party series. Noticing a gap in the market, the close-knit founders realised nobody was releasing the kind of music that had become representative of Motorik and seized the opportunity. It’s safe to say the crew have never had to look back. In an interview for Local Suicide earlier this year, Motorik summed up the label’s ethos:

“The label is fluid and constantly changing. When we started we were only releasing club releases made by DJs for DJs, now [we] find artists bringing us music they want on the radio. It’s important for us artists can come to the label no matter where they want their release to be positioned. Motorik is an open platform which will support its artists new or old, wherever they want to go.”

Despite the fervent focus on releasing new, boundary-pushing beats, the label’s parties have thankfully not taken a back seat, regularly hosting events across Sydney and further afield. The Motorik Vibe Council, a back-to-back amalgamation of all four founding artists, is not only an apt closing-act for any Motorik event, but a summary of the label as a whole. An eclectic, no-holds-barred selection, jumping between BPMs and genres.

In celebration of the label’s successful five years of parties, we’ve invited a collection of the roster in to share their four favourite warehouse tracks. Return each day for a new selection!
