Part of the Neo Violence takeover
Low Tape is one of those producers that made a big impact on his first release. I Loose That Feeling, out in January 2016 via none other than the label we’re dedicating this week to, Neo Violence, planted the Russian producer firmly in the eyes of the saturated lo-fi scene. It came five months after the title track gained high acclaim, hosted by one of the top YouTube channels for pushing unsigned producers, OOUKFunkyOO. Our pick from that EP, ‘Sk8’ (which we had the pleasure of premiering), has racked up a tidy 33.7k plays on Soundcloud – a notable amount considering the infancy of both Low Tape and the label at the time.
Following a healthy foot into the scene, Low Tape found his first 12″ released in October 2016 via Echovolt records, the Greek label home to the likes of Steve Summers, Simoncino and Legowelt. Again, Through The Night demonstrated his talent for producing emotive, hazy house and acid jams. This year, he’s appeared with a fast-paced electro jam remix on London-based Axe Traxx (the sub label of Axe On Wax led by Fede Lng). Yet to come from Low Tape this year is another five 12″ release, proving how quickly this producer has gained himself deserved attention.
Hailing from the Russian city of Nizny Novgorod, Low Tape is part of a budding scene of producers. In a bid to put his hometown on the map, which he’s already well underway with accomplishing through his own work, here Low Tape sheds light on four local artists from the region.
