Following this EP came NV002, the first VA album from the label. Here, the selective talents of label owner Dmitrij Malyšev really began to shine. This sampler became an early platform for many lo-fi talents such as Chilean Daniel Klauser and Brooklyn-based J Albert, alongside pushing some Czech producers. Now on its 15th release, having pushed quality EPs and two more VA albums, Neo Violence is a testament to the power of the internet when running a modern label. Finding talent through YouTube, all social media platforms and community groups such as Strictly Lo-Fi, Dmitrij has honed his skills as an online-savvy A&R. Now, the label has featured the likes of New Yorker man-of-the-hour Baltra, Russian Low Tape, Londoner Deejay Astral and Australian Rudolf C.
We first came into contact with Dmitrij in 2014, and it wasn’t long after that we found ourselves hosting his talented selection skills in our mix series, later transpiring to playing alongside us at our 60Hz party in Berlin in 2016. A close friend and colleague ever since the beginning, we’ve had the pleasure of watching the label grow from strength to strength, and helped promote many of their releases through our premiere series (listen below). A solely digital label since the end of last year, it was the rise of Lobster Distribution that aided Dmitrij in taking his label to the favourite physical format in August 2016. To date, Neo Violence has release two vinyl samplers that have represented the label’s multitude of talent, including tracks from the likes of Rudolf C, Baltra and Low Tape.
To celebrate Neo Violence’s movements over recent months, we’ve invited seven of the collective in to share some of their inspiration. Reaching far and wide, just as the label has done since its inception, we have Jupiter Jax, amnfx, NMSS, Low Tape, Jus Jam, Zolaa. and d.MIT.RY each selecting four tracks under their chosen theme. Return each day for the new selection!
You can pick up all Neo Violence digital releases through their Bandcamp.
