Part of the SuncéBeat takeover
Highly regarded DJ, producer and remixer Nick Moss has more than earned his stripes. He’s been DJing for nearly 25 years, and producing around 20 – releasing on labels like Defected, MN2S Records, Nite Grooves and Soul Heaven. Under his Groove Assassin alias, he’s seen further releases on labels like Tony Humphries’ Tony Records, Glasgow Underground and Black Vinyl.
Hailing from Sheffield, Groove Assassin’s early surroundings helped pave a way for his long-standing career in music. The melting pot of disco, funk, soul, jazz, latin and rnb came together to inspire a love of early House music, underpinning Groove Assassin’s solid reputation as a purveyor of classic, soulful House. Consistently changing with the times, Groove Assassin’s sound dances between straight up Chicago house music, fused with elements of 80’s style hip-hop, New York garage and disco-funk grooves. Now at the forefront of the UK house scene, Nick Moss has graced the decks in global super clubs like Pacha, CIELO in Manhattan and Ministry Of Sound alongside Little Louie Vega at his Masters at Work launch party. Back in 1992, Groove Assassin was filling in for Jose Padilla during his residency at Ibiza’s cherished sunset spot Café Del Mar, and his tour has seen him fly across the globe performing across Asia, Australia, Europe and beyond.
Showing no signs of slowing, Groove Assassin is stepping up with another group of releases out this year. With an imminent EP due on Delve Deeper Recordings, another on Things Might Change and a forthcoming remix with Mugsy Balone – Groove Assassin has been fine-tuning his sound throughout the rise of his DJ career, and it’s apparent in his production. This year, he’ll be playing at the SuncéBeat Festival at The Garden Tisno alongside names like DJ Spen and Josh Milan – sharing a line up with legendary dance music pioneers like Kerri Chandler, David Rodigan, David Morales and Terrence Parker. We’ve been lucky enough to take a glimpse in Groove Assassin’s record bag – here are four classic picks he’s dug out for the Dalmatian coast of Croatia.
