Community and intimacy are two of Farr Festival’s most fitting buzzwords. Born from a family campsite in the woods, 2017 marks the eighth year of the now 5000 capacity festival. Director and boss man of bookings Oscar Thornton selects his festival apt Tracks of the Day featuring records from Detroit legend Omar-S and lo-fi favourite DJ Seinfeld.
Farr is the primary focus of East London based events company Front to Back Events, of which Oscar is the managing director. He’s established strong brand partnerships with the likes of Ransom Note and Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Records. Oscar’s focus on community spirit runs throughout the running of the festival, with stage partners being involved in discussion curating their line ups from the outset.
Sound is of paramount importance. Recognising that many festivals in rural areas suffer as a consequence of council restrictions, since the birth of Farr Oscar has worked alongside Full Fat Audio to ensure each stage has the best possible system. Now the festival is one of few in the UK that retains a 6am licence, an indication of his successful focus on sustaining a strong relationship with the local council.
Farr Festival takes place from July 13th to 15th this year in Bygrave Woods, Hertfordshire. Check out Oscar’s intrepid woodlands tracks to soundtrack the festival below, and purchase your ticket by heading to our takeover page.
