Part of the Farr Festival 2017 takeover

Farr Festival 2017 will be graced by a DJ set from Mister Saturday Night, the minds behind one of the best long-standing weekly parties in New York. Along with Eamon Harkin, Justin Carter is half of the Mister Saturday Night DJ duo. Since they began throwing parties in NYC in 2009, they have taken their events worldwide. Along with their colourful and groovy Mister Saturday Night parties, they throw daytime outdoor Mister Sunday parties, which have had great success in recent years, especially in London, where their summery laidback vibes proved a big hit. The music selection is usually an eclectic mix of disco, house, pop, funk and blues – basically, a lot of fun! Mister Saturday Night also runs a record label of the same name, established 2012. The label has released tracks from quality artists such as Anthony Naples, General Ludd, Nebraska, and Gunnar Haslam

Carter and Harkin have also built their own venue in NYC called Nowadays, which is situated on the Brooklyn-Queens border. They built this space from the ground up after raising over $100,000 on Kickstarter, and opened their unique venue in the summer of 2015. On June 25th, they are celebrating their 250th Mister party ever, which will be taking place at the venue. To celebrate this milestone, they are releasing a Mister Saturday Night compilation called Mister Saturday Night: Then and Now. Marcellus Pittman, Falty DL, and ESB are just a few of the names featured on the 14-track release. The tracks span styles, scenes, and eras, capturing the sound Mister Saturday Night has developed since their inception. It brings together songs that have come to define the party, as well as some new additions. The compilation will be released on June 30th in mixed and unmixed versions, available on LP, CD, and digital formats.

Ahead of the Mister Saturday Night set at Farr, Justin Carter has selected some special tracks for your listening pleasure. These upbeat jams will give you a glimpse into their renowned parties, so make sure to grab a ticket via the main takeover page!

“This is the lead track to Mister Saturday Night, Then and Now, the mix and compilation we’ve done around the 250th Mister party ever. It’s such a joy-inducing song, an Ethiopian classic, written and arranged by Mulatu Astatke and sung by one of the most emotive singers I know of.”

“If I play Falling Sun to a full dance floor, this is almost always the next track. Eamon and I both used to play the flip, Lap The Music, at the party all the time. In the lead up to our 250th party, I’ve been pulling records that are classics from the party that we haven’t played in a while. When I put the record on, I accidentally played this side, and I realized it’s just as amazing!”

“Tornado Wallace is on top of his game right now. I can play this song to a packed dance floor or as a backdrop as people are walking in, and it fits perfectly.”

“This is a pretty rare record by Bruce Shider, the brother of Garry Shider, who was the longtime musical director of Parliament. I had to do some real sleuthing to find it, but it was worth it. One of my favourite records in my collection.”
