TOTD // 15/05 // Catz 'N Dogz

There’s no denying it, close pals Grzegorz and Wojciech have been killing the game since they started their DJing career back in 2003. As producers, DJs and, of course, the owners of Pets Recordings, their alias as the house outfit Catz ‘N Dogz has been a prolific one, jam-packed with countless memorable performances.

The Polish duo effortlessly veer from techno to deep house in both their production and DJ sets, winning them a band of loyal followers both digitally and on the dancefloor. Like many house producers of the moment, Catz ‘N Dogz draw influence from genres like hip hop, showcased by a J.Dilla-inspired mix they did back in 2015. And when the lads aren’t blowing fans away with their chunky club styles, smooth-as-hell mixing and eclectic albums, they’re keeping busy remixing music from well-known artists such as Basement Jaxx and Friendly Fires.

Catz ‘N Dogz are one of very few DJs that have gained repute for their ability to get the crowd going and simultaneously showing perpetual technical finesse whilst DJing. They’ve made waves at some of the biggest festivals in the UK and internationally including Bestival, Sonar, Snowbombing and many more, and continue to host their Pets Recordings label showcases from Ibiza to BPM and beyond.

Despite their incredibly hectic schedule, were lucky enough to have a quick catch up with Grzegorz and Wojciech ahead of their performance at this year’s Love Saves The Day, and their exciting world tour to follow. They’ve selected music they’re feeling at the moment, with a (fitting) theme of “four tracks with a message of love”. Give them a listen below and get yourselves psyched for a love-filled bank holiday weekend in Bristol’s Eastville Park.

“The whole EP is called For The Lovers and all four tracks on this EP have this “special something” that just make you feel good inside. It’s everything what we love about  house music: sex, funk and simplicity.  It’s not easy nowadays to find somebody with unique sound like those guys have.”

“Ok maybe the song doesn’t have lyrics but you don’t really need lyrics to understand the message. If you play that record in the right moment or just play it while walking on the street it really makes you wanna hug a stranger on the street. Another record to listen to when you are in the bad mood. Tangerine Dream are classic and we are very often coming back to them.”

“It’s an edit of  Fern Kinney’s ‘Love Me Tonight’. This record was on repeat for few good weeks when we discovered it. Remember listening to this record literally the whole day in the loop. Played in the right moment creates very special moment at the dancefloor. The lyrics are simple but really good. It’s an example of “how to make a good edit”.”

“This track for us has a lot of history. We were finishing a lot of daytime sets with this one. It’s really funny to see how people react to it because this record is way quicker than everything else some people dance half tempo :) Another record that makes you feel good inside and leaves people in a very good mood.”
