Part of the 47 takeover

Since arriving on the scene way back in 2010, Portsmouth-based producer Killawatt has seen his profile grow alongside a string of quality releases on some much revered labels; including Tempa, Osiris, Lion Charge and 47. His relatively recent transition into techno from his dubstep oriented roots have brought an increased level of sophistication and complexity to his productions, often providing much more than a standard four to the floor beat. His influences can be heard throughout his music, with dark, brooding bass colliding with intricate, painstakingly crafted top end. It’s clear that Killawatt produces music with an incredibly adept ear for the most minuscule of details, he manages to do much more than simply engage the listener, preferring rather to immerse them.

His four selections for Tracks Of The Day introduce us to some of the most interesting corners in the techno world. With contributions from the likes of Shackleton, Mønic, Room 506 and Terence Fixmer he guides us through four memories from previous 47 nights. There are some truly choice cuts in there; incredibly dark textures abound, each track is hugely evocative.

“I opened my set, and the night, with this at Concrete as people were filtering in. It sounded immense in there and possibly confusing to some, but this type of slow building dread is perfect for an environment like that.”

“Played this mid set at the first ever 47 night at Arena in Berlin. This is the perfect peak time roller guaranteed to raise the tempo anywhere from my experience. It was amazing to be part of that first event. The 8am flight back to London less so…”

“Tommy played this at Concrete. It was the first time I’d heard it and it wrecked the place. Unbelievably heavy track and a classic already. Also, shout out to Eomac for playing a Prince track mid set at the Paris show, completely out of the blue and killing it!”

“This takes me straight back to the first 47 event at Concrete in Paris. Pretty sure it was Paula that played it and I remember having it to this in the booth, turning round to see Tommy and him just laughing at me. It was absolutely pumping!”
