Part of the Craigie Knowes takeover

As one half of the Craigie Cartel, William The Squid is now one of the major contributors within Glasgow’s eclectic music scene. After playing at clubs like Sub Club and The Ice Factory, the Craigie Cartel established a sound in their local scene; a sound made up of avant-garden disco-house, absorbing techno and musical nods back to better days.

In 2015, William The Squid alongside his Craigie Cartel partner Tarky started their imprint Craigie Knowes – and the label has already seen contributions from artists like Lord Of The Isles, Move D, Legowelt and Neville Watson. This year has marked the start of William The Squid’s time in the studio, and soon he will be releasing some original sounds on the label, including a track on Seg. 3 of the Craigie Knowes Universal Broadcast series. He’ll also be releasing his own EP, and after building a reputation for himself as an impeccable DJ, we’re definitely looking forward to the first of many to come from William The Squid.

At the heart of the Craigie Knowes imprint is the duo’s good deeds. Their annual fundraiser album series has hosted names like The Burrell Connection, Chaos In The CBD and Shanti Celeste, with all profits going towards War Child international.

Whilst the vinyl-only Scottish label continues to impress, William The Squid will be working on new material set to release in the very near future. Meanwhile, to continue on the Craigie Knowes takeover of Watch The Hype’s Tracks Of The Day, we’ve got our hands on a selection of four energy-fuelled tracks from the label-head himself.

‘I run the label (lucky me). I’ve waited years but will be releasing some sounds on the label this year, a track on Seg. 3 of the Universal Broadcast series and my own EP, about time I say.’

“‘The best new record I bought in 2016, wtf is with these space age French dudes. Botine and Voiron killed it on this split EP. This sci-fi 2 step stuff makes my tentacles stand up on end’”

“I’ve got a 24 minute live jam of this that DJCJ and The Burrell Connection did before they trimmed it down and became the mighty Highfield Casuals, what a jam and it doesn’t get boring even at nearly half an hour play time. Here is the final version that ended up on the release. Something really special about this one for me, it’s melancholic, uplifting and memory provoking all at once. Look at me getting all weird, but this is some sentimental shit!”
