Chances are, if you’re into techno, you have heard of Mark Broom. It all started in the summer of 89 when he landed in Tenerife on vacation and stumbled across the delights of the emerging sounds of Chicago and Acid House. After returning to the UK, he bought a set of turntables and his musical journey started. Now with over 25 years in the business, he has some 150 production credits under his belt through this name, as well as a bunch of other aliases. In his earlier career the East Londoner worked with world renowned labels such as Mo-Wax, Warp, R&S, Blueprint, Soma, Ifach (with Baby Ford) and Bpitch Control. Over the last decade he’s also released on some of the great emerging labels this side of the millennium; Power Vacuum, 2020 vision plus Saved, Cocoon, Skudge and his own label Beard Man.

He has also had the pleasure of reworking material from artists such as Dubfire, Edit Select, F.U.S.E, Dj 3000, Alan Fitzpatrick. In 2010, he did is first collaboration with James Ruskin, which has since seen the pair to produce a host of dance floor-ready EPs together, including the heavy hitter ‘Hostage’.

It’s amazing to see an artist who’s been so current and influential for so long, after all he deserves it. It seems his trick is never getting complacent, working outside of his boundaries and pushing himself by tweaking his sound, collaborating with rising stars as well as the established greats. He’s not showing signs of slowing down either. 2016 saw another five releases linked to his name as well as multiple shows including his Boiler Room debut.

As we close off the year, we’re delighted to have Mark Broom be one of the final artists to contribute to what has been a spectacular Tracks Of The Day year. Although his sound is firmly rooted in techno, he’s decided to switch it up a bit and showcase what he’s been listening to at home, showing that not everything coming out of his stereo is a 4×4 beat.
