Today, our Tracks of the Day come from Tom Reid, known more commonly as the London-based producer and DJ, Mosca. Juggling responsibilities as a record label owner, touring DJ and progressive producer attempting to bridge the gap between “dark but still sexy” tunes, Reid certainly manages to keep himself busy. Add a monthly Wednesday night NTS radio show into the mix, alongside the inevitable tolls of daily life, and it makes it all the more welcoming to learn that he’s managed to maintain a measure of lightheartedness and tongue-in-cheek humour. You needn’t look any further than his pinned tweet in order to begin to understand the type of artist, and person, Mosca is.
A self-confessed lover of groove, experiment and rawness – mixed in with a sizeable pinch of emotion and allure – Mosca successfully translates this passion into releases, whilst simultaneously supporting fellow artists that walk a similar, criss-crossed path. His label, Not So Much, has totted up four releases thus far, three of which have been Mosca’s own production. With Samuel, a side project of Hessle Audio’s Ploy, making up the remaining release, there is a clear vision and direction within Not So Much that Reid is successfully honing in on with each EP.
It’s this vision and overarching passion for bounce and simultaneous bewitchment that is also evident within his picks for today. Italian distortion, Japanese hypnosis, Irish roll and German ambience are succinct summaries of the tunes guided to below. Check them out and broaden your horizons just that little bit more.
