Five years ago Ashley ‘Woz’ Westlake debuted on Black Butter Records. Submitting his remix of RackNRuin ‘Territory’ to a competition, his entry blew the label away prompting them to sign his debut EP Seen on the spot. The next few years with the label were hugely successful, culminating in his EP Cherry Hill featuring the talents of Max Marshall.

More recently 2015 saw Woz delve into a number of different ventures, exploring an analog sound he’d been developing over the past three years and solidifying a new direction. Teaming up with Troy Gunner, they both started a collaborative project under the moniker WxT, which was picked up by Mak & Pasteman and put out via their label Materials. His solo music was also released through Monki’s Zoo Music, showing this new and refreshing direction is proving to be very popular.

Well known for his music curation and DJing, he’s also had a busy couple of months on the road. Ending 2015 with an Asia tour and seeing him embark on an Australian tour at the beginning of this year, as well as being booked for a number of one-off shows, his skills on the decks have allowed him to open up new audiences across the globe and showcase this revised sound. We’re thrilled to have him pick out Tracks of the Day, kickstarting the week with a great selection of electronic music that shows a shift in his musical influences. Feeling the tracks? You can catch him playing at Snowbombing as part of the Black Butter Records showcase on 6th April here.

“I picked up this record on my recent Australian tour during a day off in Sydney. I asked the kind guys at “Record Store’ to recommend me a bunch of Australian records and this was my favourite. The track has a fun progressive structure, is full of textures and syncopation… the B side’s vibes too!”

“Taken from his debut release on Chronocircle a couple years back, I was shown this release by Troy Gunner when we first started working together. A pumping 808 beat, with weaving top lines, plus that haggard vox that comes in half way through the track.. super simple but expertly executed. There’s also a 909 version on the release too!”

“I met Andy Stott at a music festival in Athens, at the time I didn’t know his music but after we talked about music interests, machines (best bass synths & his love/hate relationship with his octotrack haha) i made sure to check his music when i got back… I’ve been a big fan ever since. First time listening to the F.I.S LP was really sonically and creatively inspiring. This is my favourite track of his.”

“The latest release from my favourite Bristol based artist since his release on Livity a couple years back. Steals is just too good. Super meticulous, hypnotic, dynamic in sound and mood, full of groove and such an enjoyable track to play in a rave. Big ups Larry!”
