Candy Pollard AKA Steffen Störmer is a selector by nature.
After being asked to appear on the ever infamous Hessle slot on London’s
prestigious Rinse FM alongside Ben UFO on numerous occasions, Candy’s tastes
have been outed for many to hear. His mixing style is positively fluid and the
way in which he presents other people’s music feels honest, doing each track a
considerable amount of justice with each blend he orchestrates. He is a DJ not
a producer and this translates into his work. You are able to tell that DJing
is Steffen’s primary interest within the realm of music, purely by being able
to notice his ear for rhythm and key as a two hour mix flies by, feeling as
linear as can be whilst still endorsing remarkably leftfield tendencies.

Candy Pollard, aside from being an incredible DJ, also
partakes in the running of a certain night hilariously titled ‘Who The Fuck?’.
With its home as the Mobilat Club in Heilbronn Germany, ‘Who The Fuck?’ takes
it upon themselves to book the best artists, illuminating them in a
tongue-in-cheek manner, with the title of the night providing posters that read
something like ‘Who the Fuck is DJ Deep’ for example. A Made Up Sound, DJ
Richard, Dario Zenker, Pearson Sound and Ben UFO have all been previous guests
at the Mobilat Club, with their most recent booking being a showcase of the
label Public Possession. Essentially, Candy Pollard is active in booking DJs as
much as he is active in being booked as a DJ. He’s a selector that is deserved
of his space up there in the booth and his future looks eye-wateringly bright.

It is with great joy that we present to you Candy Pollard’s
picks for today’s Tracks of the Day in which he selects four records that he bought around the time he started DJing and is still playing today.

“Just a rolling beat combined with a guitar riff you can’t get out of your mind once you heard it. One of my absolute favourites from the Burden Brothers oeuvre. Detroit at its best!”

“A side project from Karl O’Connor and Peter Sutton better known as Regis and Female of Sandwell District fame. Dreamy synths and a simple drumloop is all you need sometimes. This one already gives you a hint to what they formulated on the legendary Sandwell District project later on. Essential stuff.”

“Really deep and smooth stuff with a jazzy touch from Crispin J. Glovers Label who also did this amazing remix. There is also a great Sterac Remix of the track which is completely different in pace and vibe.”

“It won’t get any rougher than this. Distorted drum sounds straight out of the purgatory. In my opinion the best track DJ Rush has ever produced, period. I can still listen to it 10 times in a row and get goosebumps every time the kick comes back in after that crazy clap inferno.”
