If you have ever found yourself watching one of your favourite DJs bring a set list to fruition on the ever growing YouTube music streaming platform, Boiler Room, you’ll probably recognise the face of Nic Tasker. However, despite this being his initial claim to fame, Tasker has since embarked on a journey that has propelled him to the forefront of London’s vast electronic music scene. With a weekly show on the infamous NTS Radio under his ’88 Transition’ segment, Tasker showcases his recent finds, from one end of the spectrum to the other, from jazz to techno, from soul to electro, all whilst seeming to remain coherent and playful. He also runs Whities, a Young Turks sublabel that has seen a number of instant sell-out successes since its formation in 2014, with Kowton’s ‘Glock and Roll’ standing out as a significant player in the 2014 festival circuit and Avalon Emerson’s ‘The Frontier’ sure to do the rounds this year. Finally, Tasker also resides as one third of the DJ trio Principals alongside Charles Drakeford and Bradley Zero, his Boiler Room associates.
Nic Tasker embodies the amount of drive you need if you’re going to make it as a DJ nowadays. He throws parties, plays parties, digs for records, releases records and regularly plays on the radio, all whilst remaining increasingly diverse and influential. With Whities 007 inbound and a headline show at Rye Wax this Friday (10th June), we asked Nic to select four tracks that he’s enjoying right now to present to you all. Featuring a recent cut from Jon Rust’s label, Levels, a glistening number from Olof Dreijer and a recent pickup from Nic’s recent journey to Manchester, we are delighted to present to you, Tasker’s Tracks of the Day.
